This packaging was a 'collaboration' with Chainsaw Man, which makes no sense. Did they get those fictional characters to actually work in the factory, or was it just a moneygrab marketing scheme? Either way, that would explain the high price and mediocre taste. Although the portion is decent, as are the ingredient, I couldn't taste much of the flavours. The noodles themselves were fine, and I was actually feeling the spiciness, just not much flavour.
Open the lid, add only the powdered soup base, and add hot water up to the line. Cover and wait for 3 minutes. Finally add the oil packet and mix it well before serving.
Starry MartDecent taste, and the soup is flavourful while being slightly thick and sweet at the same time. It was filling, though not very memorable.
Just add all the ingredients, add 400ml of hot water, and wait about 4 minutes. Stir and serve.
Starry MartIt's supposed to be hard to get tonkotsu wrong, but somehow this manages to make it kind of meh. There's a hint of a tonkotsu flavour there, but not strong enough. The decent serving size tries to make up for it but in the end I wasn't satisfied.
Add all the ingredients to the bowl, add hot water up to the line and wait 3 minutes before mixing and serving.
Starry MartDespite the plain packaging, this had an excellent balance of tangy and spicy without being overwhelming. The amount of noodles included is really good too. The matured kimchi taste really stands out.
Add all the ingredients to a bowl, add about 500ml water (enough to cover it at least) and wait 5 minutes before mixing and serving.
Starry MartDespite its somewhat unpolished appearance, it's a really good noodle and package overall. The broth is tasteful with a dose of spicy (there are little chewy sweet-ish chillis), the beef flavour comes through nicely, and the noodles are plentiful in a good portion size. The package did come with a vacuum sealed braised egg (it looked like a smooth brown ovoid), but I think I would have simply done without it.
There weren't any instructions I could find so I improvised. Add all the ingredients (except probably the egg) into the bowl. Add hot water up to the inside line, you can just about see it. Cover it up and wait 5 minutes, and then mix it, it's ready to serve.
HiyouUnexpectedly good without having to be spicy. The sauce coats the noodles really well, and the noodles easy to pick up and eat. There are bits in there which is nice, and the portion size is quite good too.
This is one of those drain types. open the lid halfway up, remove the sachets. Add hot water up to the line, cover it and put the packets on top. Wait about 3 minutes, then drain the water through the top holes. Now add the packets including the sauce, mix it well, and serve.
Starry MartAnother topokki, those cylindrical rice cakes, with some galssy noodles. The sauce is fiery, and does have a habanero kick to it. But the amount of food itself is tiny, and the noodles aren't easy to bite off either. Because they are glassy, they're slippery and they also burn the mouth due to heat retention.
Add all the ingredients into the bowl, fill water up to the line (which is very low in the bowl). Then wait about 5 minutes (or microwave it for a few minutes). Mix it and serve. Stop buying these.
Starry MartIt's basically topokki, cylindrical rice cakes, in glassy noodles, with a little bit of sauce and coating. The sauce is excellent, it's fiery and coats everything. The glassy noodles aren't terrible, but there isn't much to eat at all. The rice cakes are good and quite chewy, but very hot to eat.
Add all the ingredients into the bowl, fill water up to the line (which is very low in the bowl). Then wait about 5 minutes (or microwave it for a few minutes). Mix it and serve. Look for more food afterwards.
Starry MartThe amount of fussing about to prepare this wasn't worth the end result. The noodles themselves were good, but the sauce didn't stick well. It stuck well enough to give a hint of a taste, but most of the taste was in the sauce that didn't stick.
So. Cover the noodles and the flakes in water. Wait for 3-4 minutes. Then, drain most of water, losing some of the flakes and bits of noodle in the process. Leave some water behind, about 5 tsp worth. Add the sauce packet and mix it really well, do your best. Finally serve and try sipping the sauce that's collected at the bottom as you go, making the most of a weak situation.
Starry MartGood taste, and good amount of noodles too, but the heat was a bit too much for a weakling like me. This would undoubtedly be a favourite for someone who can handle it. Despite the heat the flavour was good enough for me to not discount it.
Just add all the ingredients, add 500ml of hot water, and wait about 4 minutes. Stir and serve.
Starry MartI didn't think it would, but the sesame and spicy combo does work well here. There's a lot of heat to these noodles, and hints of sesame as you're having it. Despite looking small, it was quite filling, and there's plenty of soup.
Add the ingredients except for the semi-transparent spice packet, and fill hot water up to the inner red line. Don't add too much of the sesame packet, you can hold back on it. Wait 5 minutes then add the spicy packet, stir and serve.
Starry MartThis was a mixed bowl, so to speak. The broth had a mild bit of heat to it, but the noodles weren't great and felt like they were working against the broth. The ingredient portions were too stingy and not much taste made its way through. Almost passable.
Uncover the lid, add the meagre ingredients, add hot water up to the line. Wait about 5 minutes, then mix it all together.
Starry MartChewy noodles with a mild heat to it. I found the flavour didn't retain for long, but the taste was good while it lasted. The portion appeared small, but was enough to fill me up.
Add all the ingredients to a bowl, add up to 300 ml water (less water for more flavour), and wait 3 minutes before mixing and eating. Interestingly, the noodles can be had right in the packet by crushing the noodles and adding the seasoning.
AsdaThis one has quite a kick to it, it's just the right amount of sour, without going into 'battery acid' territory, and comes with a good dose of flavour and heat without being overwhelming. Overall it's really well balanced, and the flavour sticks to the vermicelli well.
Add all the ingredients, add 500ml water (up to the red line inside), and wait 5 minutes. Stir it well before serving.
Somewhat surprising; although the packaging makes it seem cheap and insubstantial, the noodles were indeed spicy with a punch. And they smelled good while making them. It tasted pretty good and the amount was almost filling.
Very simply, add all the ingredients in a bowl, add enough water to cover it, and then wait for about 3 minutes. Stir before eating.
DowozkaThis one felt posh. The packaging was sturdy, the sachets were thick, it even came with its own fork. The noodles were quite good, the flavor had a hint of peppery spice to it and the sauce adhered to the noodles well. It was quite filling.
Open up the lid about a third of the way, and add the vegetable packet. Add hot water up to the line, cover it up, you can use the other ingredient sachets to weight it down. Wait 4 minutes. Remove the draining 'lid' at the top, drain the water through the holes. After that remove the entire lid, add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
UKCNShopThe packet is actually quite filing, it was bulging when I got it. It's a hot and sour taste, and the spiciness has a tang to it that packs a real punch. I, being of a delicate constitution, was only just able to finish the whole thing including the broth. I think spicy food lovers would enjoy this one.
Mix all the ingredients together, add about 500ml hot water (or till its covered) and wait for about 5 minutes. Then stire and eat.
Starry MartIt's a hot and sour noodle, but with seafood flavour. I wasn't sure if the two combinations would work, but it somewhat works. The noodles and broth work well together, it's nice and chewy, though at times the smell felt a bit strong.
Add all the ingredients into a bowl, including the noodles. Cover it with 400ml of water and let it sit for about 3-4 minutes. Then mix it up and serve.
Wai Yee HongThe packaging says "S🔥per Ch!l!!!" with good reason. It really is, but not the overwhelming type. There's a good, decent amount of noodles, and the sauce has a burning kick to it while maintaining a nice savory flavour. I have no idea what crawfish tastes like, so I'll assume it was this.
There were no instructions on the packaging, so I had to search online: Add noodles to a bowl, add the hot water. Wait about 5 minutes, then drain the water (this wasn't so easy as the noodles did absorb quite a bit). Then add the ingredients and mix it up and serve.
Starry MartA slight variation on the awful hot and sour version, this is a bit better. With the exception of a giant bag of sesame paste included for some inexplicable reason. I found that the overall taste is better without including the sesame at all, though it's definitely a powerful spiciness. The rest of the ingredients are plentiful and actually pretty good to be fair.
Discard the sesame paste pouch. Add all ingredients, except the sesame paste, into the bowl. Add about 400ml of hot water and cover for 5 minutes before mixing well and serving.
Wai Yee HongThis is a Vietnamese noodle, and a rare case of seafood flavored noodles being actually good. There's a bag of crab paste included, and the noodles are made of brown rice. Overall it mixes quite well.
Add the noodles and the ingredients except for the crab paste bag to 400ml of hot water. You really don't need a lot. Let it sit for about 3 minutes, then add the crab paste and mix it up.
Oriental MartThe packaging looked pretty promising. Unfortunately this was a noodle experience that kept disappointing. Each packet I tried to open was an exercise in frustration, poorly serrated and spilling contents on opening. Any hint of flavor or spiciness was immediately overridden by the dull staleness of the sesame paste.
Cover the noodles in 500ml of hot water, wait about 3 minutes. Drain the water away and then add the ingredients, if you can, then mix and serve to people you don't like.
doufuProbably one of the most popular Korean noodle brands, it strikes the perfect balance between spiciness, tanginess, and fulfillment. I actually have this one regularly at home, it goes really well boiled with hot dogs.
Add all the ingredients to a bowl, add 500ml of hot water and wait for 4-5 minutes. Stir and serve.
Starry MartA hearty noodle with a good amount of ingredients. The broth is reminiscent of bone soup and has is slightly spicy. There are bits of pickled cabbage in there too. Overall quite filling and enjoyable.
No instructions were given, so I made a guess: add all the ingredients to the bowl, fill it up to the line with hot water, and wait 5 minutes.
DoufuIt's better than OK, it's great! I really enjoy spicy noodles that aren't overwhelming, yet still retain a great flavour. This one does not disappoint. One slight downside, the amount isn't that filling.
Add the dried vegetables and noodles to a bowl, and cover with hot water. After about 4 minutes, drain the water, then add the packet of paste. Mix it well, and serve.
Starry MartA just-OK broth with a little hint of beef and the spiciness a tad too strong. The noodles themselves are OK and somewhat filling, but nothing memorable.
Add all the ingredients into the bowl, add water up to the line (about 500ml) and wait for about 3 minutes.
Oriental MartThese noodles can't figure out what it's trying to be. There are a lot of packets of ingredients that don't necessarily work well together.
But it doesn't matter, the taste is overwhelmed entirely by the excessively hot and sour broth which consists more of spite than anything else.
Starry MartYes, duck blood. The blood is actually in coagulated tofu-like pieces, and actually wasn't disgusting at all, it was just tasted of salt. The noodles came with several packets of ingredients including croutons and cabbages. Although the amount of noodles appeared to be small, the dish overall was actually very filling, strangely enough. The broth has some spice to it and the cabbages are tangy.
Add all the ingredients into the bowl, and add hot water till it's covered, about 500ml. Leave it for 4-5 minutes, then mix and serve.
Sing-Kee FoodsBetween the crying, wheezing, and sputtering, I think I was able to detect a hint of habanero.
StarryMartAgain Nongshim's trademark soup, which is a fine balance between too brothy and too liquidy. The spice level is somewhat 'biting', though it didn't prevent me from finishing it.
Add all the ingredients, add hot water up to the line, and wait 3 minutes. Mix and serve.
HMartThe non-spicy variant of the excellent spicy pork bone broth version. The broth is tasty and hearty, and would be great to have on a cold day. Having tried both though, the spicy pork bone broth version is much better.
Add about 500ml water and all the ingredients together, and wait 5-6 minutes.
Oriental MartThe packaging looks plain and unassuming, but the hot and sour flavor is punchy and does have a good taste, without it turning into battery acid. It does come with some sesame and some kind of peas.
Add all the ingredients to 600ml of hot water, and wait 6 minutes. Mix everything and serve.
Starry MartMy second try in the Soup Daren line and this is somehow better than the first (Korean spicy beef, also excellent). The broth is superb, tasty and hearty, it's rich without being overwhelming and is fantastic on a cold day.
Will be trying more in this series, the packaging is instantly recognizable for me now, with the 'mukbang lady'.
Add about 500ml water and all the ingredients together, and wait 5-6 minutes.
Oriental MartAlthough not a spicy one, the beef flavour is still good. It's a very 'standard' tasting noodle that didn't really have anything special about it, but wasn't terrible either.
Very simply, add all the ingredients in a bowl, add about 500 ml water, and then wait for about 3 minutes. Stir before eating.
Starry MartExcellent broth, one of the best I've had in a long time. The noodles softened perfectly and went very well with the mixture of sweetcorn and vegetables. Some places call it 'Soup Daren' and some call it 'Tandaren', either way it's a new line that I'd like to explore more.
The packaging had no instructions, so I had to experiment to figure it out: Add about 500ml water and all the ingredients together, and wait 5-6 minutes.
Oriental MartA decent offering from Samyang, the spiciness is slightly sharp at times but the broth is weak. Overall just forgettable.
Add the noodles and ingredients in a bowl with 550ml water, and wait for 4 minutes. Mix it up and serve.
Starry MartYou just can't go wrong with noodles and kimchi. It's Nongshim's trademark soup and spice level at just the right amount.
Add all the ingredients, add hot water up to the line, and wait 3 minutes. Mix and serve.
HMartTwo good ideas that don't meet well. The broad noodles are good but don't pick up the sour flavor well. The sour soup is quite good on its own. Overall decent when eating but forgettable about 2 seconds later.
Put noodles in a bowl, add all the ingredients, cover it with hot water and wait for 6 mins. No need to drain the water, just mix and serve.
Starry MartThe flavor is somewhat spicy, it's the kind that builds up. The noodles tasted just OK, the broth only had a decent flavour when gulped directly, but not via the noodles themselves. In the end though, despite the generous packets of ingredients, it was unmemorable.
There were no isntructions given so I had to make a guess. Mixed all the ingredients into the bowl, added hot water, and waited 5 minutes. Then mixed it together and served.
Starry MartA vermicelli, soupy noodle with a lot of extra ingredients, including some sesame flakes and beans, in addition to the hot and sour paste. The ingredients did blend well together and the noodles were able to hold on to some of the broth. It's not super spicy, just mildly spicy and it has that trademark Guang You flavour I'm starting to recognise.
Add all the ingredients into the bowl, add enough hot water to cover it (500ml roughly) and then wait for about 6 minutes before mixing and serving.
Oriental MartQuite filling, plenty of broth and noodles. The broth is tasty and easy to gulp down.
Add the vegetable packet to the bowl and pour hot water over it till the noodles are covered. Wait 5 minutes, then add the remaining ingredients and mix it up.
Starry MartThis is from the "Chong Qing" line but it wasn't terrible like the "battery acid" one. This one says "DRY" but it's a soupy type!
It was definitely spicy hot, and required eating slowly.
Add all the ingredients to a bowl, then add hot water. Cover and wait for 3 minutes. Stir, wait another 2 minutes, and then eat.
Starry MartNo instructions, but it's a soup type. I found a YouTube video in Romanian of someone making it and I had to time them to figure it out.
It turns out, the guy in the video was comparing the taste to battery acid. I should have listened.
It was really bad. The soup was very hot and sour, while eating, it felt like my tongue was burning, and it overwhelmed all other tastes. Even worse — the noodles didn't 'pick up' the flavoring at all, so it was just a hot and tasteless mess.
Anyway the instructions: add all the ingredients to the noodles, add about 500 ml of hot water, and let it sit for 5 minutes. Stir, mix, and then throw it away because it's awful.
Starry MartThe "hot and sour" was manageable for the most part, but the heat builds up over time, so take it slowly.
Add all ingredients, then add hot water. Wait 5-6 minutes and mix.
Starry MartThe "Big Boss" line is in smaller cups. It's actually quite decent in terms of spiciness and hot liquid, but not overwhelming.
Add all ingredients, then add hot water. Wait 5-6 minutes and mix.
Starry MartAnother from the excellent "Sichuan Broad Noodle" line.
Add all the ingredients, then add hot water, and wait for 6 minutes. There is no draining required.
There is a broth which approaches spiciness without being too spicy. However gulping too much liquid at once can make you cough.
Starry MartAnother broad noodle winner. It's hot and sour, but not overwhelmingly so (like the battery-acid type Chong Qing noodles). It's almost as good as the Broad Noodle spicy hot version.
Cover the noodles with hot water for 5 minutes, drain, then add all the ingredients and mix it up.
Starry MartAlthough I like broad noodles, this one wasn't very good. The sesame paste tasted more of peanuts than sesame and overrode all other flavors.
It was fine as a one-off but wouldn't have this regularly.
Put noodles in a bowl, cover with hot water and wait 6 minutes. Drain the water, add the ingredients, and mix it up.
Starry MartReally good, one of my favorites, a flat broad noodle that's easy with chopsticks. A bit spicy but not overwhelming.
Put noodles in a bowl, cover it with hot water and wait for 5 mins. Drain the water, then add the ingredients and mix it up.
Starry MartIt's a vermicelli, which is uncommon in instant noodles. The packaging packs a lot of ingredients in one place.
The noodles are mildly and enjoyably spicy, with a soup. There are plenty of pieces of bean sprouts, vegetables, and peas (though the peas were a bit 'dry').
Add all the ingredients to a bowl, add 500 ml of water, and let it sit for 4 minutes. Mix it up and serve.
Starry MartThere were no instructions given, but it's a soup type.
Add the sauce packets to the noodles, then add hot water, and wait 5 minutes.
It was just OK, I struggled to taste anything. The noodles didn't really pick up any taste.
Starry MartSo, which part is artificial? The pickled cabbage, the fish flavor, or the vermicelli?
It's a mildly spicy soupy noodle. There's just enough chilli in the broth to keep it good. There's also bits of pickle (or artificial pickle?) to help with the flavor in between. Definitely worth trying.
Add all the ingredients into a bowl, and cover with 500 ml of water for 4 minutes. Mix it and serve.
Starry MartA so-so offering, not spicy but not tasty either, as very little of the flavouring stuck to the noodles.
Add the vegetable pouch and hot water to the noodles, and wait for 5 minutes. Add the spice paste and mix it (which is somewhat difficult), and serve.
Starry MartThe name says spicy, but it isn't spicy, it's more savoury. The taste is quite good, like salted eggs, and different from most other noodles. However it isn't very filling and isn't sufficient on its own.
Add the vegetable pouch, and cover in hot water for 4 minutes. Drain the water through the holes in the lid, then add the remaining ingredients and mix it.
Starry MartIt's not spicy, but a nice hearty beefy broth. The noodles are thin and flat, which goes well with the broth.
Add all the ingredients in the bowl, add hot water up to the line. Wait 5 minutes and mix it up.
Starry MartA thin and flat noodle with a decent broth, but not as good as its 'spicy hot' variant.
Add all the ingredients in a bowl, add enough hot water to cover it (500ml roughly) and then wait for about 5 minutes before mixing and serving.
Starry MartThe broth is quite good! And it is just mildly spicy, the enjoyable kind. The noodles are thin but also flat which makes for interesting texture in the mouth.
Add all the ingredients in a bowl, add enough hot water to cover it (500ml roughly) and then wait for about 5 minutes before mixing and serving.
Starry MartIt didn't even taste bland. It just tasted of nothing. I couldn't tell if there were missing packets of ingredients, or if this was it. Awful.
Starry MartAdd all ingredients, then the hot water, and wait 5 minutes, mix.
The taste is quite hot but tolerable. But, it's a small cup so not sufficient on its own.
Starry MartI found this in a high street shop. It's a nice, soupy, but not very spicy, noodle with broth. It has beef pieces and there's a good pickle-ish flavor that comes through.
Add all the ingredients except the pickle. Add hot water up to the line and wait 4 minutes. Finally add the pickle and mix it.
Sadly after I had this, I found a health warning regarding "unhygienic processing of pickled vegetable products". I did not find the results of the investigation however.
ZERO stars! Never again!
This was extremely spicy, and I could not handle more than 3 mouthfuls.
I regretted it into the next day as well. 👌🏻🤌🏻🤏🏻👌🏻🤌🏻🤏🏻👌🏻🤌🏻🤏🏻🔥🔥🔥
I later learned that "pedas giler" means "killer hot" in Malaysian.
Starry MartKimchi is a great flavor for noodles. This one didn't taste of kimchi to start with, but the taste, and the spiciness, accumulated. Really good.
Mix all the noodles and ingredients together, add hot water, and wait 5 minutes.
Starry MartThe flavor is very mild, even the prawn flavoring is mild, not spicy at all. It's probably good for a one-off.
Add about 600ml hot water in a bowl, break up the ramen so all of it gets soaked. Wait 6 minutes, then add the ingredients and mix it up.
Starry MartThe flavor is very mild, I'm not sure what the 'spicy XO' flavor is supposed to be, but there were only hints of spiciness at times, it was mostly just seafood.
Add about 600ml hot water in a bowl, break up the ramen so all of it gets soaked. Wait 6 minutes, then add the ingredients and mix it up.
Starry MartNoodles with a supposedly Korean Style black bean sauce.
I say supposedly because it tasted of nothing. Despite the gravy-like soup adhering well to the noodles and covering everything, it was just tasteless.
I didn't even bother noting down the instructions.
Starry MartSamyang is good at making spicy noodles that are also flavoursome. The noodles definitely taste good, while the stew is hot and spicy. It was definitely good, but I'm a lightweight so I was unable to finish the broth.
Add all the ingredients into the bowl, add hot water, and wait for 4 minutes.
Starry Mart
